Mission 1 by LunaARTemis-S237 Mission 1 by LunaARTemis-S237
Ok a picture I've been working on for a while now. One of my friends suggested I started practicing more detailed images, so that's what I be doing now.

Good thing I like: I Love the way Luna and the Chief turned out! :)

Bad things I don't care about: I don't care for the background and grass much.

Everythng else is eh.... It's not perfectish, but as my friend said "I have talent now I just need experience." And it's true, so I must do. =P

Critiques are greatly appreciated! :)
Any negative comments shall be ignored. :( For example.. "This is a piece of crap!" is not what I want to hear. There are different ways you can go about this instead of just being plane mean. =P

She's supposed to be closer up to you than the Chief. I was trying to work on perspective or distance whatever it's called because I'm really bad at it. :P And as you can tell, I'm bad at it. Lol :P

This is an amazing picture! I like it alot and because that grunt is the color scheme of my spartan, even though its about to go splat, Im going to say that's my Spartan in grunt form!

Looking much better kiddo. I am going to point a few things as well. The first thing is that everyone in this image is facing the same way. We can see the front of everybody here, try turning some around or sideways, make it a little hectic (they are being shot after all). The rocks are pretty smooth. Rember that trick I told you with the Pokeman one you did, with the rock blocking the fire. Try that here too. The magical thing about PS is that you don't have to create everything from scratch. What I do like is the more detail of course and that you seem to be realy getting into the highlights and shading. Dont be afraid to go all the way from one end of the spectrum to the other. Use both black and white. Take for instance the highlight on her left leg and left arm, those two realy get that armor to pop out right there, gives it edges. I'll stop there. Keep it up and you'll be working on Halo 5: Chief Family Bussiness concept art :]

woops, i pressed the add comment button accidentally and didn't get to finish. as for advice, i recognize the grunts and jackals in this drawing as actual known screenshots; so i think it would be great for you to work on using the actual pictures as a references only and turning them into your own, be inventive, don't just copy. it also helps the drawing keep that sense of 'coherence' you want. (lol if i'm not mistaken the jackal sniper is halo 3 era and the one with the shield is halo 2? same for the grunt with the red one being halo 2 and the green being reach.)

hopefully that helps and you'll be on the right track to improvement. :D

Ya I did. =P I've never drawn Jackals and Grunts before so I copied them. I figured it would be interesting to mix the different ones together, but then again it throws it off. =P The next picture I do I'll try and just do my own thing now that I've got an idea of them now. But anyway thank you for pointing that out. I appreciate it. It helps out alot. :)

there is a definite scale and placement issue going on here. I understand chief is farther back, and the female spartan is what id call "full size" in this picture, but all of the covies are deff out of proportion. the closest grunt looks fine how you have things, but either resize your spartans according to the distance from the camera, or make your covies larger. its an interesting piece, but it could use a revisit. keep practicing and especially pay close attention to your scale in relation to distance.

Hmmmmm.... Thank you so much for pointing that out! I've alaways had issues with scale in school too... :P I must do that. Thank you again! ^_^

something that could help you for this specific piece would be just a general size comparison chart for halo characters. heres a good one, though its kinda small: [link]

the chief is 7'2" in full armor. jackals are 6'8" and grunts are just under 5'. all of this data comes from the halo wiki. you dont exactly have to make your characters these sizes but if a spartan is about the same distance from the camera as a grunt, the top of its pointy back mount should be somewhere around the stomach area in height of the spartan. if its closer it gets bigger, and if its farther it gets smaller. for each piece its going to change depending how deep your piece goes but as long as you consistently grow or shrink the scale depending on the placement of a character youll do fine. youll generally just eye-ball it and with practice that will get easier. hope this elaborates a bit for you and helps.

Thank you for the scale too! It's small, but I have Photoshop to make it bigger. Lol ^_^ And again thank you so very very very much for taking your time to help me.
